Special K Challenge Done!

Hello all!

Sorry for my long hiatus! I've been out of town and trying to prep for the new semester of classes which is looming in front of me. Yesterday was my last day of the Special K Two Week Challenge. I'm bittersweet on this. I'm sure I lost a jeans size (yay!!) so that is a benefit. I'm cinching my belts a bit tighter as well. However, I don't look like I'm any smaller and the scale registers me at an amazing 169... one pound lighter. LoL.

So I didn't lost the 6lbs I could have, but I attribute that to me cheating a few days and having babyish workout routines. I'm not trying to overdo it, but perhaps I need to focus a little more all the same. So now I need to try something new. Not a diet per say, but just a way to track myself so I'm not overeating or under-eating, and still have a regular workout schedule. Ideas? I can use all the help in the world!

I need to cut out sodas. Or at least cut down. But I do need a caffeine fix every day or you'll get a grumpy Meg. :) The other thing I want to try is Acai berries in some form. I saw pills of them and drink mixes, as well as foods. Does anyone know a lot about it? I got this off WebMD:

Acai Berries

So yes, we'll see. I still need motivation for all this. My goal remains the same: 30lbs. But it's soo easy to go back to bad habits. Just keep pushing me and I'll feel the need to not let you all down! :)

Best,

~ M

  2. Way to go Meg! Getting started is the hardest part!

As for my two cents . . .
    1. Don't go on a diet sponsored by a food company.
    2. Realistically, if you are trying to lose weight and keep it off at your size you're not going to be able to shed more than 1 lb a week at best. 6 lbs in 2 weeks is a joke.
    3. I cut my college soda addiction by switching to hot and unsweet tea. and by drinking club soda with lots of lemon wedges and/or a splash of crnberry juice (not cocktail).
    4. Try to cut out white carbs, cheese, booze, and any beverages with calories.
    5. Forget Acai berries as a super food, and start each day with a bowl of plain oatmeal with a handful of raisins. The fiber in the oatmeal and raisins will do amazing things and jump start your weight loss. Also, beans eat lots and lots of beans.
    6. Fage 0% greek yougurt is a great replacement for sour cream on things like chilli.
    7. 30 mins of vigorous aerobic exercise at least 5 days a week.

Let me know if you need a diet buddy, I've got a little weight I need to burn myself, and have been cragging my feet to get going.

  3. 1. Do NOT cut out bread completely... just lower your intake. Like I said earlier, you need carbs in order to maintain energy levels while you're exercising. Breads and pastas are loaded with healthy nutrients and necessary calories. Try eating the healthier breads and pastas that are multi-grain. (Arnold's 14-grain is delicious!!)

    2. Do NOT cut out milk products!!! milk is one of the best protein-givers out there (not including meats, eggs, and nuts). Try drinking the 1% milk or drinking Rice Milk if you're concerned about the fat calories that are in it.

    3. Here I begin to agree with Bobby: Snack foods. Instead of eating chips or candy or whatever people eat as snacks these days, try having a grapefruit or handful of cranberries and nuts. Dole just put out an amazingly delicious product in the dried fruits section of grocery stores-- pineapple chunks covered in yoghurt and oates, and apple chunks covered in yoghurt and oates. They're about 80 calories per little bag and they're actually quite filling (I'll bring some in for you to try, if you want). AND it's never bad to finish off a meal with a cleansing York Peppermind Patty (the little ones). Remember, you can still have sweets, it's on the top of the food pyramid for a reason, just keep in mind that you don't need a handful of chocolate. one or two pieces will suffice.

    4. Another way to help you lose weight and maintain that weight is to make sure you eat at the same times every day. Skipping a meal is not good for your body. If you skip a meal your metabolism slows down because it has nothing to burn which then leads to a more difficult time getting your metabolism back up to the proper rate. I always have a breakfast between 0800 & 1000 (either a chocolate soymilk shake with bananaa, 2 eggos with apricot jam, 2 pieces of spit-in-the-eye [bread with a hole in it and egg in the middle], or bowl of honey nut cheerios and rice milk), then a lunch around 1300 (incorporating fungi, vegetables, and a bread of some sort), a snack around 1530 or 1600, then dinnner close to 1830. Maintaining a schedule of some sort keeps your body's metabolism going pretty much at the same rate, so even if you skip a day of exercise, you're not hurting yourself as much.
